What could be a good bait to use for cats if water is shallow and murky and the weather has been really hot has rained a little?

Usually when water is shallow and murky the best thing to use is what they are used to eating such as crawfish and minnows but also liver deffinately has an amazing effect of catfish of all species. If you're not afraid of them look around for insects in the near by habitat catfish also love water bugs and things such as that.

Like the other guys, chicken liver is my go to. Another one I've heard of for super muddy conditions is soap. Never tried that myself, but you can imagine it will put off a huge sent trail and catfish will eat just about anything.

I have always found that chicken liver works the best when the fishing gets slow. Chicken liver lets off a massive amount of scent becase it is so soft and breaks down in the water. Catfish can follow a liver trail no matter the water conditions. The downside is it can be a bit difficult to keep on the hook but i use nylon sewing thread (about 1$ for 100 yards at walmart). you take about an 8" piece, wrap it around the hook shank a few times then wrap it around the liver every which way, pull tight till it breaks and it will stay on for much longer.

floridahunter, I have to disagree with you, I have used both side by side and have always had more luck with the chicken liver. Also have never had trouble keeping the beef liver on a hook, but chicken liver is very soft.

Beef Liver works well and has much more scent to it then chicken liver. keep it iced because once it thaws you'll never get it to stay on a hook

Good catfish bait works no matter the conditions. I like shad, cut or live, chicken liver, sunfish, and of course worms.
