What's the best way to get your line out of a tree?

Usually there is no problem getting your line in--it is when you pull it out the lure or hook it becomes tangled.As gravity and the presentation of your lure have managed to be at point A---just release your line and let the lure drop to the water level.Access the lure and cut the line-retrieve your lure-the line will now be retrievable through the limbs--pulling the line with lure attached will surely tangle your tackle within it's limbs;eventually losing line and lure- this way you still will have that lure and most of your line.A special note -before you attempt this rescue by boat-canoe-waders etc-determine if the situation is a safe one---heavy current and another tree limb could knock you out of your watercraft or any other risk could pose harm. -
YEP! I remember that day I do!! Paddled up under that tree limb and out dropped a Water Moccasin! Made short work out of it with the boat oar!Comment

Oh yeah, ol salty, I've heard a few of those stories--I laugh every time. "I got the snake, but sunk the boat!" Or they jump out of the boat--what do I do now? LMAO I shouldn't laugh too hard cause I never had one actually land in the boat--easy for me to say I wouldn't pee my pants or shoot my own boat.Comment

I was fishing an oxbow lake in an old plank-bottomed cypress jon boat when a cottonmouth dropped in and in the ensuing excitement I split my paddle and dislodged a couple of planks pounding on the snake. I used up all of my tee shirt and part of the legs of my jeans chinking the boards so I could fish my way back to the landing. I do remember doing a lot of bailing because the fish were biting well that day and it took me a while to get back.Comment
