    it was hungry.though catfish are usually a bottom dwelling fish, sometimes they can be found higher up in the water level.

      Bigjake is right. I have caught a 3-pound cat off of a top water bass lure. Just because something is unusual, doesn't mean it won't happen.

        Lots of people think of catfish as scavengers, but they are actually very efficient predators. If the food is on top of the water, they'll eat it even though that's not their preferred method. I once caught a nice mess of catfish along with bluegills during a willow fly hatch using a sponge spider on my fly rod.

          I've actually caught alot of catfish on flies. A wolly bugger is usually best, but they will hit just about anything. Catfish are voracious predators.

            Catfish are preditors as others fish are:
            Example: A few years ago while fishing on the Santee lakes in SC. I saw a 35 lb Blue Cat get caught eating a 6 lb Blue Cat already caught on a trot line. The guy ended up w/ 2 fish on 1 hook.
