Can you recommend a live bait rig that would best support a safe release of muskie and pike?

Try using circle hooks. They are designed to catch a fish in the corner of the mouth. When you feel the weight of the fish, set the hook and if you do hook the fish, it should be easy to safely release it. Unfortunately circle hooks are only single hooks, so your strike to catch ratio may go down slightly. Good Luck. Capt Ed
